We arrived home from our Cornish holiday on Saturday night. On Sunday I looked in the kitchen cupboards and found them pretty bare. I was too tired to go shopping, and feeling too lazy to cook anything anyway. The obvious solution would be to get a takeaway delivered. However I don’t like traditional takeaway food. I generally find the kinds of foods that takeaways offer to be greasy, unhealthy and bland, yuck.
On this occasion though I was lucky enough to have the chance to try a new kind of food delivery service. Meals.co.uk bring the menu from your favourite restaurant into your home and deliver your order to your door. All the fun of a meal out with non of the hassle of actually leaving your house. As a girl who spends as much time as possible in her pyjamas this sounds like a fabulous concept to me.
I entered my postcode into the site and it showed me a list of local restaurants. There is a reasonable choice, with a variety of different kinds of restaurants offering varied types of cuisine. I chose Halo who were offering a Sunday roast dinner, with nut roast for us vegetarians. The children all chose pasta from the children’s menu, and we added a few puddings to share.
The delivery was around half an hour late, which wasn’t ideal. I did get an apology from Meals.co.uk and an offer of a discount on a future order, which helped. The food arrived well packaged and warm and we all sat down to enjoy our meal.
My roast dinner was delicious. The roast potatoes were perfect and the gravy was divine. The children’s pasta was pretty basic but they all tucked in with gusto so it must’ve been good. Our dessert order was a little disappointing because the restaurant didn’t have the chocolate brownie or sticky toffee pudding we had originally ordered. Instead we got chocolate fudge cake and cheesecake both of which were pretty average.
I’m sure I’ll use Meals.co.uk again in future. I noticed that my favourite sushi restaurant was on the list as well as a good pizza place to save me from greasy takeaway pizza in future. The service is only available in Bristol at the moment, but they tell me they’re planning to expand in future and I’ll let you know when they do.
If you’re in Bristol and you fancy giving it a try Meals.co.uk have set up a discount code for me to offer you. If you use the code purplemum on orders of £15 or more you will get a £5 discount. Enjoy.

I decided to use this service at the weekend, we fancied a lazy TV dinner and ordered Pizza from a local restaurant using meals.co.uk. The delivery time was stated as 6-6.30, unfortunately the food was very late and finally arrived at 7.15. I contacted meals.co.uk who took full responsibility and refunded me for my meal, which was a nice gesture. However since both my experiences using the service have been with late delivery I probably won’t use them again.
*Disclosure: I was provided with my meal in order to review the service. Regardless my review is a reflection of my true opinions.
